Budget chains cluster under £30. Council leisure centres sit in the middle and hold most of the pools. Above £140 you are paying for space, towels and quiet.

How to read this
Coverage is uneven, deliberately. Twenty-one boroughs are listed in full — every gym, leisure centre and studio we could find. The remaining twelve (Barking & Dagenham, Barnet, Bexley, Bromley, Ealing, Enfield, Havering, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest) currently list only venues with a pool or 24-hour access. Those boroughs are flagged part throughout. Counts and medians for them are not comparable with the fully covered boroughs, and their budget-gym numbers in particular are understated.
Where an operator publishes a headline rate we use it. Where they don't — most council and YMCA centres price by membership type — the figure is our estimate and is flagged as such in the directory. Off-peak, concession and joining fees are not included. Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Kingston closed in 2019; its replacement is due in spring 2027. Personal trainers are listed on the trainers page.
